Calling all university students, staff and faculty! Greeting from Real Food Challenge!
Are you curious to figure out the kinds of food your campus purchases? Have you wondered how your institution can leverage their purchasing power towards a fair and sustainable food system?
Real Food Challenge leverages the power of youth and universities to create a just and sustainable food system. To support institutions and students in this endeavor, Real Food Challenge created the Real Food Calculator, a tool students can use to audit their campus’ dining purchases. Built around our Real Food Standards, the Real Food Calculator analyzes a campus’s purchasing patterns after students research and input food purchases from dining invoices. To date, over 1000 students from 263 institutions have researched well over $432,000,000 worth of food products. Calculator results are also compatible with AASHE STARS’s Food and Beverage section!
Along with the Calculator, Real Food Challenge provides a range of support to institutions who run an assessment. This year, we’re excited to host a two-part webinar series in the fall that dives into the Real Food Standards and Real Food purchasing. The webinars will help to ground ourselves in the values behind Real Food through a look into our Standards and how to actually make the positive changes happen through purchasing. More information will be sent out as we get closer to the date. Along with the webinar, Real Food Challenge:
- Provides onboarding support and resources.
- Hosts weekly office hours.
- Manages listservs to foster peer-to-peer support between student researchers and between campus support staff.
- Checks in with individual campuses seasonally for any troubleshooting and questions.
We’d love to work with you! If you’re interested in running a Calculator assessment for the 2019-20 school year, please fill out this form.
