Garden & Nutrition Educator Trainer GNET


In 2007, NORTH BAY CHILDREN'S CENTER created the Garden of Eatin’ project, a curriculum and toolkit that was approved by the USDA which serves as a model for early education.  This innovative hands-on environmental curriculum, where young children grow, harvest and eat fresh fruits and vegetables, has a positive impact on future health outcomes and lifestyle choices for the staff, children and families in our program.

NBCC is looking for a garden educator to join our team.  If you are energetic, enthusiastic, have experience working with young children, are knowledgeable about health, nutrition and gardening and wish to further your experience, then this is the place for you. 
The person selected for this position is required to work professionally as a team member with center staff and respond positively to all management supervision and feedback.  It is recommended that prospective applicants have a background or experience in Early Childhood Education, Gardening and Nutrition Education. Must be able to lift and move items up to 50 pounds, reach, bend, squat, and kneel.

  • Enjoy working with children in indoor/outdoor environments- year –round.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents and staff about garden, nutrition and nature education.
  • A "self-starter" able to initiate, collaborate and inspire projects and people to completion.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team and work remotely with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

  • Plan and implement a variety of diverse age appropriate garden, nutrition and nature activities consistent with the philosophies of NBCC’s Culture of Health and "Best Practices”.
  • In collaboration with the students and center staff, plant, manage gardens, and harvest seasonal produce at each of the NBCC gardens.
  • Coordinate and attend center’s Family Garden Work Days.
  • Coordinate and/or conduct Garden Education / Nutrition Events at multiple school sites for families enrolled in our program.
  • Attend and participate in regular staff meetings, staff development days and professional development. 
  • Attend identified NBCC Fundraising events.

This is a 32 hour per week position.
