Develop a Carbon Farm Plan with Gold Ridge RCD

Resource

Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District (RCD) invites all interested agricultural operations to apply for a Carbon Farm Plan (CFP). ***Please Note: Your operation must be located in the Gold Ridge district. View our map here: http://www.goldridgercd.org/htm/district-map.htm

If you are a landowner or lessee with an active agricultural operation and you are interested in increasing carbon sequestration, reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, improving soil health and productivity, and increasing your chances of securing funding for carbon farm practice implementation, then you could benefit from a CFP!

Carbon Farm Plans identify realistic carbon practices for your operation to assist you in meeting your on-site conservation goals. CFPs evaluate all elements of your farming and land management practices and challenge you to find more climate beneficial alternatives when feasible. Once completed, the document serves as a pathway to future funding for CFP implementation. CFPs are a win-win solution that benefit you and the environment.

Why is carbon farming important?
"According to Marin Carbon Project research, sequestration of just one metric ton per hectare on half the rangeland area in California would offset 42 million metric tons of CO2e, an amount equivalent to the annual green house gas emissions from energy use for all commercial and residential sectors in California."-- Carbon Cycle Institute

Carbon farming practices include, but are not limited to:

  • Mulching/compost application
  • Residue and Tillage Management, No Till/Strip Till/Direct Seed
